Position: Delivery Person (Part-Time, Seasonal) (starting in Spring/Summer 2018)
Compensation: D.O.E.; $10+/hr while training; $12+/hr depending on experience and reliability.
Approximate Hours per week: 10 to 30 hours, perhaps more, depending on the season. Very early morning to mid-afternoon, most Tuesdays and Fridays. Hours per week will vary with our order volume and the season.
Responsibilities: Our Delivery People are crucial members of our team since they represent the “public face” of our co-op, as well as the last step in a long chain of events which should get the “right” boxes of produce to the “right” customers. Their responsibility is to safely, efficiently, courteously and correctly deliver orders as invoiced and scheduled, while preserving our high standards of quality and service.
Requirements: To fill this position, one must be skilled and comfortable operating an 18-foot box truck in city traffic, including narrow streets, back alleys, and heavy traffic situations. He or she should also be in good physical condition, and be able to lift 50-pound bags or boxes without difficulty. Excellent communication skills, a pleasant personality, clear thinking, common sense, ability to read a map, attention to detail, efficient work habits and a positive attitude (especially in heavy traffic) are also essential. Both women and men are encouraged to apply. For insurance purposes, our drivers must be at least 25 years of age and have a clean driving record (no accidents, DUI’s or more than one moving violation within the last five years). A CDL is NOT required.
Please Note: We are looking primarily for drivers for our Baltimore/ Washington DC delivery routes, but will need this or other persons to be available as a back-up for other routes, including possible trips to other parts of Pennsylvania, Path Valley (this is picking up produce), Southern New Jersey and/or Northern New Jersey. Because we are a seasonal business, work may be limited or unavailable from late November until early June. We are aggressively seeking to expand our product line during this period, but we cannot guarantee that this position will be funded during our slow season. This position is best for those who do not require regular, full-time, year-round work.
About Our Company: Tuscarora Organic Growers Cooperative was founded in 1988. We serve small-scale organic fruit and vegetable producers in South Central Pennsylvania. Owned and directed by its own farmer-users, TOG Co-op handles produce sales, marketing, shipping and production planning for 40+ family farms each season, which produce over 100 different crops. The Co-op’s primary customers are retailers and restaurants in the Baltimore/Washington DC metro region. We sell produce every month of the year, but our main selling season runs from mid-May to late November. Our business has grown steadily throughout TOG’s history, yet we are still a small and casual company. We need dynamic, committed individuals to help us as we grow.
Our Location: We have a warehouse and office in southern Huntingdon County near Maddensville (about ½ hour north of McConnellsburg and ½ hour south of Orbisonia, 15 minutes from Exit 13/Fort Littleton on the PA Turnpike).
