Availability List For Friday September 1

Posted 8/29/2017 1:27pm by Natalie Kujala.

Greetings, I (Taylor) am writing today! I want start off by telling you that there are some new items on the list today, including delicatas and sweet potatoes. Again, if you are interested in more varieties of winter squash now, please let us know! We can bring it in for you! There is a lot of talk about rain today. I have been hearing about the horrible amount of rain that is falling in Texas. I hope that it ends soon! This year, a good number of our growers have said that they have gotten hail a few times this summer. Honestly, I had to look up how hail can occur during summer weather. The lifting and cooling of hot air is quite interesting, but not good for our summer crops.

REMINDER: We will have regular business hours next Monday (labor day), as well as, the rest of the week.

HIGHLIGHTS:   PEPPERS: Have you ever tried the yummy snack peppers? These cute little peppers are coming from Shoestring Acres and Bending Bridge Farm. I think they are perfect for snacking, while watching a movie or driving in the car. When do you like to snack on these yummy little things? Instagram anyone?

BARTLETT PEARS: An American classic! The Bartlett pear tree arrived in America, from Europe, at the end of the 18th century. Originally planted in Massachusetts, but this popular pear quickly spread across the country. I recently found out that people like to stuff and bake the Bartlett pears. I will definitely have to try this!

GREENS: These cools nights are doing wonders for our greens. The lettuce mixes, in particular, are exploding. Our sweet and spicy salad mix would really like to be in your coolers, storefronts, and kitchens as well! We can definitely send you five-pound cases!

TOMATOES: Yellow beefsteak tomatoes deserve their own trumpet sounding again. Jarrah and Nino, of Chicano Sol in Blain, PA, would really like to share these globes of summer sun with you! Right now, I am hungry, so I am thinking about a turkey burger with the works, which may include a few slices of a yellow beefsteak. I know what I want for dinner!

FINGERLING POTATOES: These wonderful, small potatoes would look so delectable on your shelves or plates! During this busy time of year, fingerlings are perfect to satisfy your potato yearning. I so enjoy that they do not need peeling. It makes is so much easier to use potatoes in my dinner dishes in the summer!
