  Happy Holidays! Taylor here today! I am very excited for this little break coming up. I will be able to see both friends and family this weekend. Hopefully, I will be able to go horse back riding with my aunt. I am sure that food is at the forefront of everyone’s brain this week, but we will be here to continually talk about food afterwards. When chefs return to their kitchens this weeks and buyers return to their produce departments and offices, we are ready to help. Please do not shy away from asking us questions.  

THANKSGIVING SCHEDULE: We will be closed Thursday and Friday (11/23-11/24) this week. We will be resuming regular deliveries on Tuesday (11/27).    


SWEET POTATOES: I have to highlight these beauties again. I must agree with Natalie in that I do not grow tired of these when it is cold outside. Recently, I started simply halving a regular sized sweet potato. Then, I just spread some miso over the cut part and add some black peppercorn. Then, the beauties go into the oven for a little bit. I could eat this all day, every day.  

RED CABBAGE: Fun fact: I read early that when cooking red cabbage it can turn blue, but the addition of vinegar or acidic fruit retains the red color. Red cabbage and apples, in the same dish; this is the Tuscarora cooking contest. We will want to see pictures.  

GOLD BALL TURNIPS: Mashed turnips anyone? I have a few friends and family members who are quite fussy when it comes to vegetables and fruits. I have to be honest: I have had family say that they will never eat a turnip. I really enjoy adding turnips to my favorite soups and then offering it to my friends and family. They never knew they could like turnips so much. I will have to try it with mashed gold ball turnips.  

GREENS LULL: This past weekend, we had temperatures nearing the single digits. Due to the last few nights of freezing temperatures, we are experiencing a lull in many of our greens. As many of our growers plant fall and winter greens in their greenhouses, tunnels, and hoop houses, salad mixes will return, and hopefully very soon. This is the time of year, though, when bunched greens and full-sized lettuce heads wind down.
