Availability List for Friday October 27

Posted 10/24/2017 1:06pm by Natalie Kujala.

I so enjoy writing the cover letter! It is Taylor here again. It is the countdown to my birthday. If you cannot tell, I am so excited. It is a week from this Friday! On another note, our growers are working on their winter to do lists. The growers have all planted their cover crops long ago. I can see a few of New Morning Farm’s hoop houses and one smaller field from my desk. I have watched their apprentices working in the small field and in the hoop houses the past few days. Many of our growers have their heads in two frames of mind; they are still harvesting what they have now, but they must all work on their winter to do lists as well.

PHONE NOTE: If you are calling in to place your order, but the order extension is busy, please press zero. This will bring your call to an available staff member who can take your order.

HIGHLIGHTS:

KOHLRABI: These beauties are coming from Jade Family Farm, Shoestring Acres, and New Morning Farm. Honestly, I had not tried kohlrabi plain until last year. It is quite delicious with salt.

HOT PEPPERS: There are so many varieties of hot peppers out there! One of my favorites is the Padron Spanish pepper. About one in every 10 is hot, but the rest are mild. They are so easy to prepare in olive oil. The serrano and poblano peppers are generally milder hot peppers, while Anaheim, Hungarian wax, and habaneros are very hot!

RADISHES: Our farmers are digging out their radishes. Many of our Amish farmers in Path Valley grow radishes to sell through the coop. Easter egg radishes and French breakfast radishes are very popular. The Easter egg radishes are usually a mix of white, purple, red, and pink, which can add to the presentation on a plate.

BUNCHED GREENS: The beautiful bunched greens are ready to be untied in your kitchen, or by your customer! Please show us how you use these greens or show us your display on Instagram!

GREENS REMINDER: Baby and young arugula, baby ruby streaks mustard, and baby and young sweet & spicy can be packed in 5lb, 8lb, or 10lb cases. Please let us know by Wednesday if you’re interested in a pack that isn’t on our list!

NON-ORGANIC, ALL NATURAL LOCAL CHICKEN EGGS: AVAILABLE IN MEDIUM, LARGE AND EXTRA-LARGE, 15 DOZEN BULK. PLEASE CALL TIM DERSTINE AT HARES VALLEY GROWERS AT 814 448 2784 FOR GREAT EGG PRICES.
