Availability List For Friday October 6

Posted 10/3/2017 1:13pm by Natalie Kujala.

Taylor writing today. My swimming streak has ended. These cold nights cooled the lake too quickly. I have switched to celebrating the outdoors with campfires! I love the smell that attaches itself to my clothes and hair. One of our board members, Tony Ricci, the owner of Green Heron Farm, recently wrote an article in a supplement of the Huntingdon Daily Newspaper. He wrote of the trials that this time of year (the convergence of summer and fall) brings with it. It is the time of year, when fall crops start to explode, but summer crops are still producing. All the while, farmers must prepare for the winter in between all of the harvesting. It was pleasing to read Tony´s reflection on the season.                         HIGHLIGHTS:

RADISHES: Our radish section is growing. This week we do have bunched French breakfast and red radishes! Also, we have a variety of bulk radishes, without the greens, so please order away.

BOK CHOI: We will be celebrating Boktoberfest this year (ha-ha-ha). I do not expect a belly laugh, but I am hoping for a little chuckle. This fall, we are trying to give the count of the bok choi cases, so that it is easier to order the size of bok choi you want.

HOT PEPPERS: Again, this week, we can offer you the following peppers in 1-pound pack sizes: Anaheim, Orange Habanero, Caribbean Red Habanero, Mixed Hot, Extreme Hot, Green Chili and Serrano. We can offer these for $10 per 1-pound case. Please let us know as soon as you can, so that we can order them from the growers.

CONCORD GRAPES: The ever-popular grape is here. According to the Concord Grape Association, the ancestors of the Concord grape are native to New England. Their website is very informative; I suggest checking it out, if you have time. In their history section, it says that in the 20th century, American consumers bought more Concords than all other grape varieties combined, wow!

BABY GREENS REMINDER: Baby greens are as happy as can be right now. Arugula and sweet & spicy are experiencing especially prolific growth spurts. We can pack in larger pack sizes (8-lb or 10-lb cases) if you are looking for bulk deals! Again, just please let us know early for any special packs.

NON-ORGANIC, ALL NATURAL LOCAL CHICKEN EGGS: AVAILABLE IN MEDIUM, LARGE AND EXTRA-LARGE, 15 DOZEN BULK.   PLEASE CALL TIM DERSTINE AT HARES VALLEY GROWERS AT 814 448 2784 FOR GREAT EGG PRICES.
