Availability List For Friday August 18

Posted 8/15/2017 1:13pm by Natalie Kujala.

Greetings from Taylor today! This morning, the growers are calling one after the next. Their fields have plenty, so they are offering a wide variety of treats. On my way to and from work, I have been listening to the Farmer to Farmer podcast, where the host interviews various farmers. I enjoy listening to how various farmers run their operations. Like most operations, produce tasks have been standardized, but people are still improving and changing them. It is interesting to hear how people come up with solutions that work for their own farm. Anyways, back to the swimming topic (I can’t stop talking about the lake). I went swimming yesterday evening, even though the clouds were threatening rain. The lake was so cold already, but my friend and I did have the section of the lake all to ourselves!

**A few growers are starting to offer us winter squash, wow. We are not going to bring it in unless you are looking for some. If you are looking for a particular type of winter squash, please feel free to email us or call in to the office!

HIGHLIGHTS:

WATERMELONS: Most of our melons come from Hidden Brook Farm, Shoestring Acres, and Windy Knolls-JH. We would love to see how you use these on Instagram! A few of our chefs have ordered a case here and there as a treat for their staff, how awesome!

FINGERLING POTATOES: Many of our fingerlings are coming from Peachey’s Farmacy. I definitely want to take some of these fingerlings home today. I found a recipe for fingerlings with a lemon dressing!

RED FRENCH SHALLOTS:  This week, Audrey and Cameron of Bending Bridge Farm are offering us cured red French shallots, and Mark, of Help From Above Farm, is offering fresh red French shallots! Please specify which you would like for Friday!

ROSA BIANCA EGGPLANT: These lavender, small, globe eggplants are coming from Old Meadow Farm. They deserve their turn in the spotlight. I read that in Italy, people use this variety of eggplant for special occasions. Could an evening this weekend be a specialty dinner night?

BICOLOR SWEET CORN: We have the sweet corn! Our growers pick the corn during the first light of the morning, and then they take it right to the cooler! We would really like to see corn on your Instagram.

NON-ORGANIC, ALL NATURAL LOCAL CHICKEN EGGS: AVAILABLE IN MEDIUM, LARGE AND EXTRA-LARGE, 15 DOZEN BULK. PLEASE CALL TIM DERSTINE AT HARES VALLEY GROWERS AT 814 448 2784 FOR GREAT EGG PRICES.
