NEW: French Heritage Tomatoes are here! Grown by one of our most experienced heirloom tomato growers, Daniel Beiler of Sunny Ridge Farm. Daniel wanted to try these in place of the traditional heirlooms to improve production and yield. If we didn’t tell you they weren’t heirlooms, you might never know. Per Johnny’s Seed Catalog, “We have seen many attempts to capture the true heirloom eating quality in a durable plant, and we can say with confidence that French Heritage tomatoes are the best you will find anywhere.” The mixes will have three varieties: Marnero (Purple Cherokee), Margold (Striped German), and Marbonne (Brandywine).

HIGHLIGHTS:

GREEN BEANS: Those bean plants at New Morning Farm are ready to POP – the farm is offering us nearly 100 cases of beans this week. I have been eating them steamed and then topped with a little salt and butter. Such a simple pleasure but so delicious. Anyway – if you are interested in 5+ cases of beans, please ask for special pricing!

SUMMER SQUASH: Not just zucchinis now – we actually have a decent quantity of the mixed summer squash and the patty pans coming in. A fun item for your retail display or for the plate.

BASIL: LOTS of basil still available. I’m a bit concerned because I saw on Instagram that a farm in eastern PA spotted downy mildew in their fields. Once this fungus hits us, our season will be over. So if you are planning to make/freeze pesto, now is the time.

CARROTS: Ok. I know. We push carrots all winter long, and now that it’s summer, you want something new. Well guess what, these carrots are NEW. Carrots are a delightful item all year round and I think it’s awesome that we can provide you with local organic carrots (which taste amazing, by the way) for nearly 10 months of the year. We are offering bunched with tops as well as bulk topless carrots this week.

KOHLRABI: These bulbs are a bit high maintenance to prep but delicious and fresh to eat. We are offering it in 25 lbs or 10 lbs cases. Great sliced as a snack or shredded in a bright summer slaw. Mostly we have green available but there are a couple purple available.

NON-ORGANIC, ALL NATURAL LOCAL CHICKEN EGGS: AVAILABLE IN MEDIUM, LARGE AND EXTRA-LARGE, 15 DOZEN BULK. PLEASE CALL TIM DERSTINE AT HARES VALLEY GROWERS AT 814 448 2784 FOR GREAT EGG PRICES.
