Availability List For Friday May 18th

Posted 5/16/2017 11:20am by Natalie Kujala.

I hope many of you were lucky enough to enjoy some quality time with your mothers this weekend. My mom is quite the trooper as I drug her across multiple state line going to dress fittings and attending wedding showers. At least the travel time gave us the chance to catch up! My mom mentioned she and my dad had an appointment in Baltimore yesterday, so I gave her some names of a few amazing restaurants who are customers of ours. They chose Parts & Labor based on location, and couldn’t have been more impressed! My parents thought the framework and layout of the building were “very cool”, loved the hospitality of the staff, and found the food delicious! A big thank you to Parts & Labor for filling my parents’ bellies and spirits!

HIGHLIGHTS:

WILD RAMPS: As the unusual weather brought our local ramp season to an unexpected early halt, we are trying something new this year by bringing in wild harvested ramps from NY. We want to make it very clear that the ramps for Friday delivery have been wild harvested on non-certified organic land. As they are not certified organic, they are not on our list. They will instead be sold by the farmer directly, though you can order them through us, and we will transport them with the rest of your delivery. 1.5# bulk cases of wild ramps are available for $30/case, and may not be available beyond Friday’s delivery.

BLUE OYSTER MUSHROOMS: One of the major perks of my job is the awesome access to a huge variety of fresh produce. Don Lake of Lakewood Farms is experiencing a blue oyster explosion, and generously gave me some to sample. Last night I cooked these beautiful mushrooms lightly with only olive oil and sautéed garlic scapes and onions. I couldn’t believe how delicious such a simple meal could be. Check out our 3+ pricing this week on blue oyster mushrooms.

BARESE CHARD HEADS: Tim Derstine of Hares Valley Growers showed me a vegetable I had not seen before. When he presented it, I thought it was a new kind of bok choi. It turned out it was a head of Barese chard. Barese chard is known for its particularly tender and crisp leaves, which I can attest to having tasted it. If you’re looking for a new spin on chard, I’d highly recommend trying Barese heads.

NON-ORGANIC, ALL NATURAL LOCAL CHICKEN EGGS: AVAILABLE IN MEDIUM, LARGE AND EXTRA-LARGE, 15 DOZEN BULK. PLEASE CALL TIM DERSTINE AT HARES VALLEY GROWERS AT 814 448 2784 FOR GREAT EGG PRICES.
