For Tuesday April 11th

Posted 4/7/2017 10:20am by Natalie Kujala.

Well, all storage crops must come to an end. This is both welcome and unfortunate news for us here at TOG. It’s great that we were able to sell so much of our growers’ harvests, but unfortunate that we no longer have some of our favorite crops to sell and enjoy, until the new harvest that is! Along with those crops we had already run through (orange sweet potatoes, winter squash, and shallots to name a few), we are officially out of onions, #1 orange carrots, and #1 turnips for the season. Luckily for us though, we are not yet out of potatoes! Though we will not have potatoes for Tuesday, we will be getting another shipment from Maine for Friday! What a nice surprise! Wood Prairie Farm in Bridgewater will be sending us gold, white, red, and Huckleberry gold potatoes (purple on the outside with creamy, gold flesh).   We’d also like to give a shout out to those of you who are finalists for the 2017 RAMMY Awards. We loved seeing so many of our customers on that list, and we are proud to be supplying you guys with produce! It seems that every month another one of you is winning an award or in the spotlight. Congrats are definitely in order.

HIGHLIGHTS:

BABY GREENS: Whoa do we have some baby greens for Tuesday. Baby arugula, baby spinach, baby mesclun, baby red Russian kale, sweet & spicy, oh my! I just love this time of year when there are ample baby greens to enjoy. I’ve certainly been eating my fair share of salads, have you?

CUCUMBERS: Cucumbers in April! You read that right! BUT, these will be VERY LIMITED this week. Hopefully the sunshine and warmth return for good, and our cucumber supply can match the demand.

PARNSIPS: Though we are running low on this cream-colored root crop, there is still time to enjoy it! Have you ever tried parsnips for breakfast? I recently read a recipe for parsnip hash browns. Prepared with potatoes, onions, garlic, and egg, this parsnip side dish sounded like a delicious breakfast addition.

SPRING GARLIC: Though the snow flurries outside aren’t exactly making me think of all things spring, the sight of spring garlic on our list makes my toes feel quite a bit warmer, and reminds me that warm weather is near!

NON-ORGANIC, ALL NATURAL LOCAL CHICKEN EGGS: AVAILABLE IN MEDIUM, LARGE AND EXTRA-LARGE, 15 DOZEN BULK.   PLEASE CALL TIM DERSTINE AT HARES VALLEY GROWERS AT 814 448 2784 FOR GREAT EGG PRICES.
